Welcome To Clondalkin Toastmasters Website.
Clondalkin Toastmasters, a branch of Toastmasters International, was set up in June 1998. The club serves the Clondalkin district and the surrounding area. The Club is made up of people from all walks of life who come together to practise public speaking in a supportive, friendly environment.
The Club, like every Toastmaster club, is governed by a Committee of seven, who are elected annually by the members. Club meetings are held in Áras Chrónáin every second Tuesday starting with the first Tuesday in September and continuing until the following June.
The purpose of the Club is to enable members to improve their speaking skills and to gain confidence to express their ideas clearly and assertively, something, which will stand to them for the rest of their lives. Members become better listeners, thinkers and speakers. Members can also develop leadership skills by serving on the committee and by motivating, managing and leading the club.
There are various roles assigned to members at each meeting, some major and some minor but all important. The highlight of any meeting is the prepared speeches by the members who have volunteered that evening.
Every speaker is assigned an Evaluator who points out the speech’s strengths and offers suggestions for its improvement. In this way, speakers can monitor their own progress and improve their performance, with the possibility of advancing, if they wish, along the road to being a Competent Communicator (CC) and Advanced Communicator (AC). Experienced Toastmasters are available to act as Mentors for new members.
At each of the meetings there is also an opportunity for “impromptu” speeches during the “Table Topics” session. Toastmaster meetings do not involve either classes or formal training. Members learn by using the Toastmaster educational material and by their active participation at each meeting.
By joining Clondalkin Toastmasters and participating in the Club meetings, you will be investing your time and effort in developing your confidence and your ability to speak in public.
